2021 marked the historic win of a woman of color, Chloe Zhao for best adapted screenplay for Nomanland. While many in and outside of the entertainment industry celebrated this win as a step in the right direction for dismantling Racism in film, especially award shows such as the Oscars, there is something rather concerning about the time it took for the industry as a whole to present an award to a woman of color for her outstanding work. We’re in the year 2021. Yet, a WOC winning an award still remains to be an exception. So how do we make this the rule? What have we been missing?
